New Tanker Attack Near Oman as Strait of Hormuz Threat Rated Severe
An LPG tanker was struck by an unknown projectile near Oman on October 22, and the Joint Maritime Information Center now classifies the Strait of Hormuz threat level as severe, Gulf News reports. Hormuz transits ran at 101 over October 22-24 against a baseline of about 138 a day, and nearly 500 vessels were waiting outside the strait as of October 25.

United Adds Chicago and Washington Routes as More Carriers Return to Israel
United Airlines is expanding its Tel Aviv service with four weekly flights to Chicago from October 26 and three weekly flights to Washington from October 28, adding to its two daily Newark flights, Calcalist reports. Etihad will switch its daily 2 p.m. Tel Aviv-Abu Dhabi departure to a 316-seat Boeing 787 from November 9, and British Airways and Iberia resumed Ben Gurion flights on Sunday.

Israel Extends State War-Risk Cargo Insurance Through November 30
Israel's Finance Ministry has extended the government program insuring sea cargo against war and terror risks until November 30, 2026, Port2Port reports. The extension followed an urgent appeal by the customs brokers and international forwarders federation, as commercial insurers still decline war cover for Red Sea transits even while Maersk, MSC and Hapag-Lloyd gradually return to the route.
WHAT IT MEANS FOR SHIPPERS
Importers and exporters keep a safety net for Red Sea-routed cargo, with compensation of up to 100% of actual damage and unchanged premiums: 0.5% annually on cargo value up to $2 million and 4.5% on value above that. Coverage is arranged on the Tax Authority website no later than 48 hours before a vessel arrives in or departs Israel.
